Guns for Jesus - I don't think so

“Trijicon, the gunsight maker that has imprinted Bible verse numbers on its scopes, has announced that it will no longer imprint the verses on the sides of scopes intended for the U.S. military, and will also provide clients with the kits to remove the Bible verse numbers from existing scopes.” The decision comes after days of scrutiny from the mainstream media and significant critique that American troops would be made less safe in the field if they were seen to be crusaders.

The beat goes on - the standard of living slips away

"Now the results of a new study by Elizabeth Warren of Harvard Law School and Deborah Thorne of Ohio University finds that as of 2007, bankruptcy has become a phenomenon of the middle class."

"When credit card companies lobbied Congress for revisions to the bankruptcy code, they claimed interest rates would go down, saving the average family $300 a year. The new law took effect in October 2005 and bankruptcy filings temporarily declined, but interest rates did not."

"The middle class is adjusting by spending less and saving more, however, unless banks modify under-water mortgages, hold the line on interest rates and we have significant health insurance reform, middle-class workers will remain vulnerable and we will continue to see them in bankruptcy court."     Jeffrey Freedman

Northern Goshawk Sighting

"I was fortunate to see it again this morning (mile marker 35).  It took flight over 131 in front of me and flew toward WMU's business and technology park.  It made my morning!"  Sharon P.

A Northern Goshawk has been seen as recently as 01-21-10 long US-131 just north of I-94.

The goshawk is on the “concern” lists of several resource agencies, including the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ (where it is designated Special Concern), the U. S. Forest Service’s Eastern Region Sensitive Species List, and the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service's List of Nongame Migratory Birds of Management Concern.

We are a country of slow learners

We should never assume that angry people are rational. Massachusetts is a case in point. Conservatives are spinning the Brown election as the people voting against health insurance reform. Voters clearly wanted change when Obama was elected, yet conservatives have stood in opposition at every step along the way. The Republican strategy of saying no to everything a popular President wants seems on the surface to be irrational and destined to fail. It has not failed. Democrats have allowed it to succeed.

Voters want results and Democrats have proven themselves incapable of delivering much of anything. Now the voters in one state decide in anger to put the driver who drove the car into the ditch back in front of the steering wheel. The Democrats whose power in the Senate is diminished by just one percent immediately cave in and talk of backing off health insurance reform. Americans are looking for somebody who will stand up for them and fight to stop the ongoing rip off by Wall Street and health insurance companies. A minority of Americans like things as they are and yet they are still in control. This makes people angry and that’s what we saw in Massachusetts.

The consevative plan - obstruct, obstruct and then obstruct some more

One year into the George W. Bush administration, there were 70 appointees awaiting confirmation. One year into the Obama administration, there are 177. Most notable, of course, is that there was no head of TSA when the underwear bomber incident occurred. Small wonder voters are angry.
